Frequently asked questions
How is a tip pool split by hours?
Each person gets the same share for every hour worked. Divide the total tips by the total hours, then multiply by each person's hours. Shares are rounded to the cent and add up exactly to the total.
Who can take part in a tip pool?
Under federal law, owners, managers and supervisors cannot keep tips from a tip pool. Some states have stricter rules about who can share, so check your state labor department.
Can I give some roles a bigger share?
Yes. Turn on points, give each person a points value (for example 1 for servers and 0.5 for bussers), and the tips are split by hours × points.
