Barcode generator

Create UPC-A barcodes for US retail products, EAN-13 for international retail or Code 128 for internal codes. The check digit is added for you, and you can download a sharp SVG file to print.

How to use it

  • You enter the data
  • Smallo works it out
  • You get the result
  1. Pick UPC-A for US retail products, EAN-13 for international retail or Code 128 for internal labels.
  2. Type the code number. UPC-A needs 11 or 12 digits and EAN-13 needs 12 or 13; the check digit is added for you.
  3. Download or print the barcode. Test a printed copy with a scanner before you use it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between UPC-A and EAN-13?

UPC-A has 12 digits and is the standard on store shelves in the United States and Canada. EAN-13 has 13 digits and is used in most other countries. A UPC-A is the same number as an EAN-13 that starts with 0, and US scanners read both.

Do I need a GS1 license to make a UPC-A or EAN-13?

To sell with a real UPC-A or EAN-13 in stores you need a GS1 company prefix, which you get from GS1 US, the member organization for the United States. Internal codes can use Code 128 without that registration.

Why does my barcode fail to scan?

Usually the check digit is wrong, the print is too small or blurry, or there is not enough white space on each side. Keep the bars sharp and leave a clear margin.
