Frequently asked questions

What is a work order?

A work order is a document that records a job: the client, the address, the date, who did the work, how long it took, what was done and the labor and materials used. The client signs it to confirm the work was received.

What is the difference between a work order and an invoice?

A work order records the work that was done. An invoice asks for payment. Many businesses fill in a work order at the job and use it later to prepare the invoice.

How are the hours worked calculated?

Enter the start and end time and the tool shows the time between them. If the work goes past midnight, for example 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., it counts 4 hours. To charge labor, add a line with the hours as the quantity and your hourly rate as the price.

Can I leave out the prices?

Yes. Set the price of each line to 0 or leave it blank, and use the work order only to record the job, the hours and the materials used.
